KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE

How are children kept safe in the centre?

We are wholly committed to keeping children safe within the centre and have thorough risk assessments and procedures that help us.
Some of our staff practices that aid child safety are:
  • Through our recruitment and selection of volunteers and paid employees, we ensure that all people who work in our centre are suitable to work with children.
  • We ensure that our staff and volunteers are carefully selected, screened, trained and supervised.
  • We ensure that all adults with substantial access to children at this centre have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check before starting work, and prior to confirmation of appointment.
  • When a parent or other volunteer helps on a one-off basis, he/she will only work under the direct supervision of a member of staff, and at no time have one to one contact with children. However, if a parent or other volunteer is to be in centre regularly or over a longer period then they will be checked to ensure their suitability to work with children.
  • Staff who are unwell do not attend the centre.
  • Staff keep all personal belongings in a locker.
  • Staff do not have access to a personal mobile phone whilst working.
  • No smoking is allowed on site.
  • The medical room, which is also used for nappy and wet/soiled clothes changing, has a âstableâ door, the top half of which is open whenever children are in the nursery.
  • All staff undertake safeguarding training.
  • We always adhere to at least minimum required ratios of adults:children.
  • Outdoor areas are checked for safety every day prior to the children going outside.
  • All accidents, however minor, are dealt with, recorded and shared with parents and scrutinised by the Health & Safety Committee.
