SPECIAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES If my child has a special need or disability, can they still come to the Centre?
Of course they can. All families are welcome at the Centre. It is very important that you tell staff about any particular needs that your child may have in order that plans can be made to meet them.
What if I am concerned about my child's speech or communication?
A speech and language therapist works with the Meadows staff team. She works alongside keyworkers supporting the development of all children's language and communication, and helping staff to develop their understanding of speech and language issues. If your child is already being seen or reviewed by a speech and language therapist, or is on a waiting list, our therapist will take over whilst your child is attending the Centre. Please let us know of any involvement your child has with a speech and language therapist.
If staff feel that it would be helpful for the speech and language therapist to take a closer look at any child's communication, she will talk to you. If you are concerned about your child's speech, language or communication, please speak to your keyworker. On the occasions when the therapist is asked to work in any detail with an individual child, you will be asked to complete a form giving your consent.
Please look out for information about speech, language and communication topics that the speech and language therapist will be putting in the reception area.
