Children need to be fit and well to cope with a nursery session. Staff are unable to welcome children into the setting if there is evidence that the child is unwell.
Do I have to contact the Centre if my child is absent through illness? Please ring the administration team if your child is ill. If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, they must be clear for 48 hours before returning. A child who has been given any medication should NOT be in the Centre. The exceptions are a child who has a long term medical condition and children taking a course of antibiotics. In this case children may return to nursery 48 hours after their first dose has been taken, provided they are fit and well. This is at the discretion of the staff.
ANY MEDICATION MUST BE HANDED TO STAFF MEDICATION MUST NOT BE LEFT WHERE CHILDREN CAN ACCESS IT.
Please make sure that any medication that you may have is kept secure in a pocket or handbag.
What happens if my child is injured at the Centre? The staff will treat any minor injury. A number of staff are trained in paediatric first aid. You will be informed at the end of the session and be asked to sign an accident form. Clearly, if the accident is more serious or if your child is taken ill during the session, you will be contacted immediately. It is for this reason that we must have an up-to-date emergency contact number for either you or a responsible adult at all times. However, in emergency, should we be unable to contact you or any of your emergency contacts, we will take appropriate action.
What happens if my child has an accident at home? Please let your keyworker know if your child has any significant bruise / cut etc but is fit to be at the Centre. (In order that we do not become concerned that the injury occurred at the Centre that we were unaware of.)
What happens if my child becomes unwell whilst in the nursery? A member of staff will call to discuss the matter with you. She may ask you to collect your child from the nursery. This must be done within half an hour. It is therefore important that we are able to contact you or your designated emergency contact at all times and that there is always someone who is able to collect your child within that time.
WEATHER How are children protected from different weather conditions?
Children need to experience all weather conditions as part of their understanding of the world. Please send you child to nursery dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.
Wet weather and water play We have a good supply of wellingtons, waterproof trousers and jackets for children to use .
Sunny weather When it is hot and sunny, please bring a sunhat for your child to wear outdoors and apply sunscreen that lasts for the length of time children are at nursery before leaving them. Staff will apply Soltan factor 40 on all children at nursery from 8.00 am until 6.00pm. We will provide the cream and only children with allergies would need to have their own cream provided. If your child stays 8.00 am to 6.00 pm on any day please sign the consent form. We will not apply cream to any child without this consent. If your child does not attend 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, responsibility for applying sunscreen remains with you.
